Language-Related Human Differentiation in the Context of Flight and Migration

Our project uses the case of current cultural encounters in the context of processes of migration to study how people mutually categorise each other based on ‘their’ languages and the role that translation (both spoken and written) plays in these processes. The central hypothesis is that translation plays a major part in the creation of linguistic boundaries and affiliations. The objective of the project is to systematically develop ‘human differentiation, language, and translation’ as a new research field.
