Differentiating Varieties and their Speakers
Workshop on Kinyarwanda Varieties from Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo
Workshop on April 12th: 12:00 – 18:00
Workshop on April 13th: 09:00 – 14:00
In this workshop, we will approach the categorization of speakers and speech communities by exchanging ideas about dialect boundaries, either based on real isoglosses or on "perceived differences". Presentations will shed light on established "groups" in the northwestern Kinyarwanda-speaking areas such as Goyi, Reera, Kiga, but will also discuss questions of belonging and linguistic
differentiation among Kinyarwanda speakers in the conflict areas of DR Congo – or Uganda.
The workshop is open to all interested colleagues and students.
