What is my research about?

I analyze how lifestyle magazines process human categorizations. In this context, I am interested in both mainstream magazines and independent magazines and zines. More specifically, my project explores the genres within these magazines that furnish the structure and patterns to visualize differences. I want to know how this visualization plays out on the printed page.

Why human differentiation?

Magazines are a multifaceted object of research that cannot be read through a single category. Instead, the entanglement of differences, their emergence and modification create dynamic and complex arrangements on the page, which I analyze as processual and performative, drawing on the sociological concept of human differentiation and integrating it with periodical and magazine studies.

My role in the CRC

Together with Friedemann Kreuder, I am co-speaker of Project Area A of the Collaborative Research Center 1482.
